Yesterday's Running Clothes

Admit it, you have done this too. I went out for an easy 30 minutes on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, after doing some work, I set out for the track in the same clothes I wore on Monday. Don't even start to wonder if I took a shower or slept in my running clothes or anything else you can come up with. My Monday running outfit was simply on the floor in front of the washer and I thought, what the heck, put that outfit back on and went out the door.

My dad has this friend that my mom loves to makes fun of. This guy likes to say, "I was tinking to myself, in my head. . . " And then he tells you about some original idea he has.

I am tinking about doing a load of clothes tonight.

Company

I had company for my five mile run today. I need to do this more often. I got to know a new friend and it was a very good workout.

Women in Sports Cars

Yes it was my wife, what a nice coincidence.

Just as I am getting across Highland Road near the end of a run, I look up and a very nice looking woman in a sports car is beeping and smiling. I give her my nonchalant wave along the lines of, "I wish all you women would stop following me, I am getting so sick of it."

If my wife beeps and smiles at you, please do not tell me about it!!

Track Workout

All those left turns. It makes a runner strong and is essential to improve. And oh yeah, it is fun. Of course each one of the actual laps is not fun. I think part of the fun is that it is more "mental" than most of the running around the park or neighborhood I do. Being ready and fighting through the difficult parts takes mental toughness. The post workout buzz is good too.

Here is even more fun. Wilson Mills and Miner Road, near the library, I am running back from my track workout. At 12:30 pm I look down at the sidewalk and I find $50. Free money - nothing like it! I did leave my name and number at the library in case someone realizes their loss and traces it down to a sidewalk block in Mayfield Heights. If someone calls, I will return the Grant.

Tropical Storm Ike

I am so smart. Got my running done on Sunday before 9:00. This was well before Ike hit Cleveland. Windy and hot and a little bit of rain. Enough wind to provide a no-charge tree trim. I feel bad for the people in Galveston and Houston that lost big when the really powerful part of the storm passed through Texas.

This is going to sound so "cleveland," but I cannot stop myself. Our worst weather is three months of cold and snow. Tornadoes - no. Hurricanes - no. Earthquakes - some. (Are Earthquakes weather related?) Mountain lions - no. You get the point. At least I did not go on about our big drinking fountain on the city's northern border.

Weather today: sunny, no wind, no rain, 70 something - perfect.

That is the last weather report you will ever see from me. Hope you liked it.

River Run Recap

I was on an all day high. It was just a great day to be out running 13 miles. I ran my goal time of 1:55. Best was last few miles much faster pace than first 10 miles. Nothing wrong with that.
Park was beautiful, weather was fine for runners, people very nice. Now if we could do something about that bus ride at the end. Next year I may ride my bike back to the start. Mark - are you up for that?

River Run

I am psyched to run 13.1 on Sunday. I am proud to say that I was there for the second River Run and a few in between. I managed a 1:39 in 2003.

This year will be a challenge for me and a test of my fitness. Look for me around 1:55.

Mill Creek Park

Youngstown's answer. As usual, no one is listening. Tag me as a homer if you want, but the place is really great. I went around Glacier Lake, stopping a couple of times during a 3 mile run. Lots going on at Volney Rogers. Two pee wee football games with yelling coaches being out yelled by parents and two guys trying to play tennis. Wedding photos at what I call the Rose Garden, but the real name is Fellows Riverside Gardens. My name is better.

Have you ever noticed how things seemed so much bigger when you were a kid? I thought Volney Rogers was about the size of the moon, but it's not.
